Gift cards & vouchers — A gift that brings customers back to your brand

Gift cards and vouchers provide a monetary value or a specified service. Customers can give them to family, friends or colleagues for birthdays, holidays, openings and appreciation programmes. Nail salons, spas, restaurants, cafés, boba shops and bakeries can also reach new customers through the recipients.

Common options

• Fixed value: Examples include $25, $50, $100 or the shop’s chosen denomination, displayed clearly so customers can choose a gift.
• Flexible value: Leave space for staff to write the amount, avoiding separate print runs for each denomination. Fields can include Amount, To, From, Card Number and Authorized By, arranged for easy completion and checking.
• Gift certificate or service voucher: Specify the experience, such as a complimentary manicure, spa treatment, dinner for two, afternoon tea, birthday cake or complimentary dessert. This suits a particular experience rather than a monetary amount.

Give the logo, value or service prominence on the front; conditions can go on the back. Avoid overcrowding the front with small text.

Gift cards, vouchers and coupons

A gift card usually represents value purchased or given as a gift. Gift certificates and gift vouchers commonly specify a service or experience. Coupons promote a campaign, such as a percentage discount, money off or a purchase offer, and are often distributed in larger numbers.

Materials and dimensions

A common US gift card size is 3.5 × 2 inches, approximately 89 × 51 mm, with a 1.75:1 ratio. Vouchers or certificates can use 4 × 6 inches, 3.5 × 8.5 inches or a custom size for the content. Options include coated, Bristol, Ivory or art paper, with matt or gloss lamination. A small envelope or folded holder with a card slot can complete the set. The holder should be only slightly larger than the card so it does not move excessively inside.
