Packing goods safely for shipping to the USA
Table of Contents
Start with an item list
Before choosing boxes, list the goods, quantities, dimensions and estimated weights. Separate printed materials, scratch-sensitive items and bulky goods so that suitable protection can be selected. Photos of the front, back and accessories help the shipping provider understand the actual construction.
Protect each product according to its characteristics
Keep menus, brochures and cards clean, protect their corners and limit movement inside the box. Separate designs and quantities so that the recipient can count them easily. Do not place heavy objects directly on printed materials that may crease or bend.
Protect the finished surfaces, edges and protruding parts of signage and decorative items. Pack and label removable accessories separately. Remove only parts for which a reassembly plan exists; do not dismantle connectors or components that could be damaged.
Measure after packing is complete
An unpacked product’s dimensions differ from those of its shipping parcel. After wrapping, cushioning and reinforcing, measure all three dimensions and weigh each parcel. Record these figures with the delivery address to compare options and costs, rather than confirming a quote from the original product dimensions alone.
Record condition at handover and receipt
Photograph the goods, their arrangement and the completed packaging. Record the parcel count and contents. The recipient should check the packaging, quantities and accessories before discarding packing materials. If a problem occurs, retain photos and parcel information to support the discussion.
